A Barrayaran custom to pay respect to the dead is to burn a personal offering to the deceased at their grave, or at another significant spot.

This offering tends to be very personal, usually a lock of hair, or an important personal item. The greater the sacrifice made by the person offering, the higher the respect paid the deceased.
